Hair Care Secrets

One device above all stood out in my head in my talk with Lieutenant Colonel Nelson R. Moon some years ago at his homey in Riverside, California, in partnership with a peeress brother of mine. He told us that "if you want data approximately good hair care, don't study to any hairdresser for that; instead, scrutinize to Native American wisdom of the past to find useful matters for the present." From a cultural perspective, I could eye just how true that was. Bleached men who visited Native American tribes throughout the U.S. and Canada in the latest couple of centuries had always remarked on just how fond these people, especially the men, were of their hair. In fact, they usually considered their hair to be the most important chip of their bodies, and would naturally profuse a portion of keeping and worry on it.
In 1970 T met an Indian couple named Adolph and Trill Hungry Wolf. At that time they resided near Glacier Civic Park in the top component of Montana. I never in fact learned their specific tribal affiliation, on the contrary have reason to be credulous it was either Blackfoot or Crow. They if me with some enchanting information on personal hair care that might prove helpful to some readers of this book. It is passed along in that spirit.
"Combs were not declared in the Old Days, but the hair was often brushed," Adolph told me. "A primitive brush consisted of a handful of flexible twigs, bound calm with buckskin. The most common brush among our cats then was trumped-up by inserting a stick of wood into a porcupine's tail. Our ancestors also cut off a handful of horse hair from the tail end, wound it tight and then doubled it over to make a soft hair brush. We still like to brush our hair with this."
His wife Carol, who had remained silent in the background for awhile, then spoke up with these comments. "Both my elephantine and grandmother would cause hair tonics and washes from the clashing grasses that grew in abundance on the plains or in the meadows encircling us. Sweet grass and common bear grass were the two most often used. They would be boiled in water, cooled downs and then rubbed into the hair every day. Such grasses leave the hair smelling sweet, almost approximating clover. In fact, brick or ashen clover tops may also be used for this. They would sometimes mix in cedar leaves for more suitable smell and medicinal effect. I've discovered in using it in my family, that it has kept our hair from falling out."
Along else disgusting lines, they talked about the use of bear grease, buffalo dung, and deer urine for the hair, that many braves in "the Old Times" were in the habit of using in their hair. "But instantly we are educated and know better," Adolph said. We know that such things are not socially acceptable by the Whites. So we rely on plants instead."
One item which Mister Hungry Wolf emphasized, that is valuation repeating here, is "to always brush or hemp your hair every day," because that seems to "keep the hair from getting senile and grey and falling out." I think what he meant to communicate was that as expanded as your scalp get parcel of exercise every generation and blood circulation to it, your chances of going gray or bald will be drastically reduced.
